Timeshare owners have recently been looking at timeshare resale companies to find a way to get out of a timeshare. However, there have been many consumer protection lawsuits filed against timeshare resale companies for making fraudulent claims. James Limbach of ConsumerAffairs.com reports: “Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum continues to go after those in the timeshare resale industry who engage in questionable and – in some cases – fraudulent practices. Even the legitimate companies that offer timeshare sale opportunities can be vague and misleading.
Among the actions is what the AG’s office calls “a significant settlement that could yield as much as $1.3 million in consumer refunds” and the filing of a lawsuit against a major player in the state’s timeshare resale industry. McCollum also unveiled ongoing investigations into at least 17 timeshare companies and their affiliates throughout the state for deceptive trade practices.” The amazing thing about all this is that somehow people are still signing on the dotted line to buy a timeshare.

These kinds of stories are not uncommon in the timeshare resale industry. Timeshare owners are going through some difficult times, on top of having to pay timeshare maintenance fees they need to make sure not to fall victim to unscrupulous scammers. They are looking for a safe and secure means out of their timeshare contract. But there are many predatory timeshare resale companies waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting timeshare owners.The piece goes further to report the stories of some of the negative experiences timeshare owners have had. “In September of 2007 I paid Timeshares Only almost $600 to list my timeshare which was to be a one time fee and they would run the ad until it sold,” says Shannon of Harrisburg, NC. “Well, I have not had one call regarding an offer for my timeshare although I have reduced the price a few times. I also decided to check the ad myself on the web site and could not find it. When I contacted them to ask why they told me I had to periodically ‘reactivate it’. If I paid you a fee and you agreed to run the ad until it sold, I should not have to call and reactivate it! This business is a complete SCAM!”

How are the timeshare resale companies still in business when they can’t provide any results to the people trying to sell their timeshares?
The State of Florida is investigating more resale companies than I can count right. Good riddance from the timeshare industry.
I bought my timeshare last year and although it is in a beautiful area of Malibu, it is not practical to keep paying fees just to spend one week of summer there. They have not raised my fees yet, but the horror stories on the web make me want to get rid of mine immediately.
I am fed up after trying to sell my timeshare with several services that tell me they have a buyer right now.
